Simulations of Struvite Reactive Crystallisation in Hydrodynamic Vortex Separator
The focus of this project lies in the investigation of nutrient recovery from wastewater through the precipitation of struvite. A framework for simulating the precipitation of struvite crystals in wastewater has been developed. A novel combination of a drift flux mixture model, reaction kinetics and a population balance equation has been implemented into OpenFOAM. In the near future two dimensional validation cases will be run to test the solver and finally the solver will applied on a three dimensional case of hydrodynamic vortex separator, to understand the viability of such product to be used as reaction vessels.
