EVALUATION OF TURBULENCE MODELS FOR THE SIMULATION OF FLOW AND PARTICLE BEHAVIOUR IN A CYCLONE SEPARATOR
The flow inside cyclone shows the high anisotropic characteristics caused by the intensive swirl flow. Due to these flow characteristics, the most popular two-equation models have a weakness to analyse the cyclone. Therefore, RSM based on second-order closure has been frequently used for cyclone simulation. There is a limitation to apply steady solution due to the very unsteady nature of the flow. Therefore, as computing power improves, URANS (Unsteady RANS) using RSM and LES have been mainly applied to analyse the flow inside the cyclone. In this study, as a part of the methodology development to analyse the reactors, the turbulent flow with particles was investigated by using MPPICFoam, a basic solver in OpenFOAM to predict particle behaviour including drag force and particle collision based on MPPIC model
