THE FRANCIS-99 FRANCIS TURBINE OPENFOAM TEST CASE
The present work provides a review of the currently available OpenFOAM results for the Francis-99 test case. The differences in results, methods, and numerical settings are discussed. The currently available OpenFOAM material for Francis-99 is discussed, in the form of base-case set-ups, meshes, and specific scripts and utilities. Many features for rotating machinery are available in OpenFOAM, but e.g. simulations of transients with rotating runner and moving guide vanes, or FSI of rotating machinery, require further developments as well as verification and validation. Novel techniques, such as harmonic balance, could be useful for some of the studies. A survey will be presented, of available and missing/wanted OpenFOAM features for the Francis-99 case, hoping to initiate a community discussion and a collaborative effort. The goal is a coverage of all aspects of the Francis-99 case at the third Francis-99 workshop, with the most accurate results and fastest simulations among the different CFD tools.
