OVERSET GRID IN NAOE-FOAM-SJTU SOLVER WITH APPLICATIONS TO NAVAL HYDRODYNAMICS
The hydrodynamic performance of ship is strongly dependent on the prediction of motions, which can be very large due to the rough sea states. Furthermore, when dealing with ship hull-propeller-rudder interaction, the motions can be much more complex. In this context, overset grid technology has been introduced to overcome the limitations of the traditional deforming mesh in prediction of the large amplitude motions. This paper illustrates implementation of the overset grid and the 6 degrees of freedom (DoF) module with a hierarchy of bodies in OpenFOAM. In addition, several typical applications in naval hydrodynamics are presented to show the capabilities of the present CFD approach coupled with overset grid.
