Hands On Distributed Computing with OpenFOAM in AWS and CloudyCluster
This hands on session will go through the process of creating a distributed computing environment in AWS using CloudyCluster to perform parallel computation around OpenFOAM models. If you just want to watch the process or if you want to follow along on your laptop in your AWS account please come. Boyd is not an expert in OpenFOAM or CFD but has extensive experience working with parallel and distributed computing so the examples will be basic OpenFOAM ones but based on this tutorial we are hopeful to give you the cloud tools and experience to build your own fabulous models and simulations. If you wish to play along in your own AWS account please send me an email boydw@omnibond.com and I will attempt to get enough AWS credits for everyone to have minimal to no charges for the class in AWS (the whole tutorial will cost less than a few dollars (U.S.). If you wish to set up a new AWS account for use with the tutorial, please do this a day in advance since sometimes AWS reviews accounts and delays turning it on until after the review.
The tutorial will cover the basics of AWS and how they integrate together to form a High Performance Computing or parallel computation environment. To enabling remote persistent VNC for visual access and then launching a parallel OpenFOAM job then viewing results with parafoam. Following which the participants can become the teachers and show me how to do more cool stuff with OpenFOAM.
