A walkthrough of HELYX-OS, the Open-Source GUI for OpenFOAM®
This hands-on training session is ideal for the beginner wanting to learn to pre-process, mesh with snappyHexMesh, and run simulations in OpenFOAM® using HELYX-OS. HELYX-OS is an Open Source graphical user interface licensed under the GPL, available for download at http://engys.github.io/HELYX-OS/. By the end of this training session, attendees will be able to:
1. Import geometries in .stl format and define patches
2. Define meshing parameters (e.g. refinement regions) for leveraging snappyHexMesh
3. Define regions for additional physics i.e. porous media or multiple reference frame modelling
4. Define physics, turbulence models, and boundary conditions
5. Execute solvers in serial or parallel.
6. Use cases setup with HELYX-OS, to run in more complex OpenFOAM® solvers.
The preliminary agenda for this training session will follow a:
- 60 Minute Overview: The workflow of solving transport phenomena problems using HELYXOS
will be covered concisely. Modelling strategies using HELYX-OS as well as best practices for specific types of simulations will be addressed.
- 30 Minute Hands-On Session: Modelling turbulent flows with dynamic mesh motion will be covered in an active learning scenario. A relevant example will be chosen to allow users more practice in setting up cases while directly interacting with trainers.
- 5 Minute Closure: Instructor will close the session with suggestions of further study to improve attendees modelling and simulation acumen and capabilities.
